Why I Need Sleep
What sleep does, and what being tired feels like.

My name is {{childName}}, and this is my story about why I need sleep. My body and my brain both need sleep every night. While I sleep, my body grows and my brain sorts out everything I learned in the day. Sleep helps me feel good the next day. Everyone needs sleep — children, grown-ups, and even animals.

When I am tired, it can be harder to think clearly, and small things can feel upsetting. Heavy eyes and yawns are my body's signs that it needs rest. Noticing these signs helps me know it is time for bed.

A calm bedtime routine helps me fall asleep. Quiet time before bed, a dark and cosy room, and going to bed at about the same time each night all help. My body learns the routine and starts to feel sleepy at the right time.

After a good night's sleep, I wake up feeling fresh and ready for the day. My brain is ready to learn, and my body is ready to play. Looking after my sleep is one way I look after myself.
