Going to a Birthday Party
What happens at a party, so it feels less surprising.

My name is {{childName}}. This is my story about going to a birthday party. I am going to a party for my friend. Parties celebrate a person's birthday with games, food, and cake. Parties can be fun and a little noisy.

When I arrive, I can say 'happy birthday' to my friend and give the present. There will be other children at the party too. Some I might know, and some might be new. I can say hello and join in when I feel ready.

At the party, there may be games, music, and singing 'Happy Birthday'. The singing can get loud, and that is okay — it usually only lasts a short time. I do not have to join every game. If it feels like too much, I can take a quiet break and come back when I am ready.

At the end of the party, I say thank you and goodbye. There might be a party bag to take home. Going to a party — saying happy birthday, playing, and saying goodbye — is a lot of things to do. I did them, and I can feel proud.
