Autistic Behaviour Issues

There are many different forms of autistic support tools available to help children with autism cope with tasks and skills that they struggle with or find stressful. However before deciding which support tools will best suit your child, it is a good idea to first have an understanding as to why the behaviour is occuring.
For example an autistic child that will not sit on the carpet infront of the teacher, or that will scream blue murder if they don't get to the front of the line in school, is NOT having a "meltdown" to get their own way! there WILL be a reason for their behaviour.
For example: the child that wont sit on the carpet infront of the teacher look for reasons - are the other children too close to him? is the carpet rough? is your perfume too strong, what about the light? and so on...when you dig deep enough you will inevitabily find the reason.
Visual Supports to Help Children with Autism
Children with autism spectrum disorder tend to be visual thinkers, therefore the autistic support tools you choose to help your child with should be VISUAL.
Social Skills Stories for behavior
Social stories ARE short descriptive pieces of text with VISUAL images to help explain why something is happening.
For example: Maybe your child on the spectrum is struggling to cope with Recess, a social story WILL explain visually much like a comic script what Recess is and what is going to happen to help the child on the spectrum cope.
The social story acts like a visual plan and answers the "wh" questions - who, what, why, when and where as well as "HOW" and also offers an insight into the thoughts, feelings and emotions of others which is an area of marked weakness in most children with autism spectrum disorder.
